North Cascades from Darrington May 2010

My reading list of favorites...

  • A Short Guide to a Happy Life by Anna Quindlen
  • Beartown by Fredrik Backman ... a powerful book.
  • Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott -- This is an inspiring book for writers. She has a great irreverent sense of humor. The book is often poignant and her message is clear for all new writers: you've just got to do it. Bad first drafts and all...just go at it bird by bird.
  • Blessings by Anna Quindlen
  • Christina's World
  • every title by Ann Patchett
  • every title by Kate Morton
  • ewwh! Don't bother to read these: Treasure Island! (not the Robert L. Stevenson one)-just ridiculous; London Train-very depressing and not worth reading
  • Message in a Bottle - Nicholas Sparks -so much better than the movie...
  • most titles by Barbara O'Neal
  • Night Road by Kristin Hannah - her usual good stuff
  • Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver
  • See You in 100 Years - One Young Family's Search for a Simpler Life…Four Seasons of Living in the Year 1900 by Logan Ward - If you've ever considered living a simplier life...very interesting.
  • Sleeping at the Starlite Motel by Bailey White - Ms. White is an elementary school teacher in Georgia. In this book, she creates vivid detailed vignettes about her extended eccentric family.
  • The Distant Hours by Kate Morton--WOW this woman can write! I'm one-third into it and staying up VERY late totally enraptured.
  • The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton: 550 pages of British mystery--I loved it!
  • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
  • The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd--I'm not sure why but this is probably my favorite book.
  • The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell
  • The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig and I just finished a follow-up novel about Morrie's life - Work Song -interesting and endearing
  • The Wildwater Walking Club - cute, deals with my favorite issues: unemployment, walking, gardening and lavender!
